When I first began to take my gardening hobby seriously, I invested in a mini greenhouse. The mini greenhouse that I chose was very similar to a cold frame. I used it to start my vegetable seeds so that I had my own completely organically produced vegetables for my family. I wanted to grow vegetables that are difficult to find yet fun to grow. The mini greenhouse was easy to build and durable. It set directly on the ground and took great pleasure from my it. One year I decided that I wanted to have a cutting garden and my mini greenhouse was not big enough for the garden I wanted to grow. It was still in great shape so I gave it to my sister and I got myself a larger portable greenhouse. (more…)

After renovating our house two years ago into our retirement dream home we stepped back one day and realized that we had not paid as much attention to the outside as we did the inside. So the past two years we have been working diligently on getting the landscaping up to date, planting new plants and giving the place a complete outdoor overhaul. One of the things we have done is use as much of our own compost as possible and kept our compost tumbler busy year round. It has paid off and I love the fact that our yard is a result of us giving back to nature. (more…)
